The Danish IMAGES scientists include researchers from the following institutions:

The membership is operated from the University of Aarhus. Denmark has been a member since 1997 and is now paying a full contribution to the program (2000-2003).
The IMAGES-related scientific interests in Denmark are concentrated on studies in the North Atlantic, but some palaeoceanographic work is being done in the Southern Seas and in the Pacific.
North Atlantic studies are mainly focussed on the last deglaciation and the Holocene. The study areas are located on the west and east Greenlandic shelves as well as on the north Icelandic shelf. Additional work on the Last Interglacial and the Holocene are in progress in the Skagerrak and in the Baltic Sea.
Specific intervals of the IMAGES-99 cores MD992271, MD992272 and MD992275 from the north Icelandic shelf have been sampled, and foraminiferal and diatom studies have been initiated, as well as stable isotope analyses (see also the Iceland report). Part of this work (the last 2000 years) is being included in the European funded project, HOLSMEER (Late Holocene Shallow Marine Environments in Europe), involving UK, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Spain and Portugal. Three graduate students from the Geological Institute of the University of Aarhus participated in leg 3 of the 1999 IMAGES cruise.
Other activities on the north Icelandic shelf are included in the project Palaeoenvironments on the North Icelandic Shelf (PANIS - http://www.hi.is/~jeir/panis.html) operated from the University of Reykjavik, Iceland (Jon Eiriksson) and with participation from the University of Bergen, Norway (Haflidi Haflidason) and from the University of Aaerhus, Denmark (Karen Luise Knudsen). This project is funded by the Natural Science Research Councils in Iceland and in Denmark.
